About Us

Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry.  HFHI's vision and Mission Statement, of which Habitat for Humanity of San Joaquin County adopted, are the following:

Vision:  A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Mission statement: Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

As the local affiliate, Habitat for Humanity of San Joaquin County, Inc. is charged with carrying out this effort on the local level. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. We are working hard to have this effort involve the community, because a community is people brought together for common goal...and that goal is to help those in our area.

Habitat has built more than 500,000 houses around the world, providing more than 2.5 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.

Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations will not proselytize. Nor will HFH work with entities or individuals who insist on proselytizing as part of their work with HFH. This means that HFH will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must adhere to or convert to a particular faith or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses.

Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor—sweat equity—into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.
