About Us

Habitat for Humanity San Joaquin County is working toward a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Mission statement: Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build their own homes alongside volunteers, pay an affordable mortgage and are grateful for your help. together in partnership with families in need. The self-empowerment created by this opportunity helps homeowner families eliminate barriers to a better, healthier, more financially stable life.  We believe that with a little help, we all have the potential to stand on our own!

Habitat has built more than 500,000 houses around the world, providing more than 2.5 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter. Habitat works in many ways: new construction, repairs to existing homes, help establish title and ownership to land, advocacy for better laws and systems, and more.

Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations will not proselytize. Nor will HFH work with entities or individuals who insist on proselytizing as part of their work with HFH. This means that HFH will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must adhere to or convert to a particular faith or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses.

Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor—sweat equity—into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.

By partnering with us, families seize the opportunity and possibility that decent, affordable housing  exists.  Through Shelter, we empower.
